Airport expansion
I am going to post on this part a variety of different airport expansion projects from around the world.
Edmonton international airport
Edmonton international airport is one of the busiest and the fastest growing airport in Canada and has a max capacity for 5.5 million passengers.with over 5.2 million passenger's in 2006 and an expected 6.1 million passengers for 2007 there is a definite need for expansion so the Edmonton airport authority has decided for a 1billion dollar expansion which will include 13 new jet way's,253,000 square meters of apron space,a new hammerhead, and a new concourse connecting the hammerhead to the current terminal, also 1000 new parking stalls for the parkade. This is remarkable after the airport just completed in 2004 a new 4 level parkade and a new south terminal at a cost of 280 million dollars and was struggling just to get passenger volumes up.Also due to the great economic sucsess of the region the airport is starting something called Port Alberta wich will be a first of its kind, it is a combination of rail, air and road all dedicated to cargo wich will include 3000acres of new development and 13,000 sqaure meter dedicated straight to a cargo apron.
Winnipeg International airport
Winnipeg international airport is a smaller Canadian airport but yet remains one of the busiest handaling 3.4 million passngers in 2006 and is expearencing a slow growth although the current terminal can handle more passangers it is old and becoming an eye strain to the so it is not being expanded but creating a whole new airport, with a new terminal parkade and a nice interior.
Ottawa International airport
Ottawa international airport also one of the busiest airports in Canada and handled 3.8 million passengers in 2006.Ottawa's airport is experiencing moderate growth and is expected to handle over 4 million passengers by 2010 so the airport authority is expanding with a new modern terminal.
Toronto Lester b.Pearson International airport
toronto's airport is the busiest airport in canada and served 30.9 million passengers in 2006 and grows on average a million new passengers a year and that will increase as toronto's airport expects over 50million passengers anually by 2020 so the Airport's authority has decided that it will expand it and invest a whopping 4.4 billion dollars in it.
Note:these are the only airport's that are undergoing a MAJOR expansion
Halifax International Airport
Halifax international airport is a smaller airport but yet remains the largest airport and busiest in atlantic canada handaling over 3.3 million passengers in 2006, and is only undergoing only minor upgrades.Due to the slower then average growth the airport has started something called http://www.flyhalifax.com/ to help attract more travellers.
